Mt. Hood Forecasters Meeting--update

5 comments:

  1. Please take the time and take the Avalanche Danger Scale survey from the NWAC. link listed at the bottom of the weather forecast page.

At the Forecasters meeting we formed three committees. These three committees will compile:

    (1)EXPLOSIVES USED IN AVALANCHE CONTROL:
Rob Onstott, Tighe Stoyanoff, Jon Andrews

Will compile this info as a reasource. Please send what you use, photos, avy and explosives plan to this group.

(2)RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN AVALANCHE CONTROL EXPLOSIVES: Joanne Stanford, Chris Brixey

Will compile R and D in whats been done. Send any photos or articles/studies to them.

(3)AVALANCHE RESCUE: Chet Mowbray, Betsy Nelson, Patty Morrison.

Will compile and our avalanche rescue programs, sort out our comminalities and difference and develope a templete for future training purposes.

I think this information will be extreemly helpfull in organizing an Avalanche Control/Explosives seminar this fall--THESE COMMITTEES NEED YOUR INFORMATION AND INPUT.

  2. It is my plan to start compiling manufacture technical data sheets some time next week. I thought additionally one useful way to disseminate some or all of the information was via information tables, but before I go to far down that path I’ll send a sample to the "EXPLOSIVES USED IN AVALANCHE CONTROL" team for comments.

I can’t remember, did we also want to compile MSDS sheets at the same time?

One thing to keep in mind referencing an archived document like captured TDS & MSDS sheets; the manufacture could update data within the document at anytime thus rendering certain information within these captured documents inaccurate.

Additionally, some of the energy values within these documents are not truly comparable from one manufacture to another because they all use different calculation models.

  3. Rob this sounds like a good start. About MSDS, most of the numbers do not nessesaraly apply to avalanche blasting.

What I look for in MSDS is product information regarding Health Hazard Data.

I will compile R n D on explosives used in avalanche control, high detonation verses low detonation explosives and send to you and Tighe.

So maybe general MSDS information would work for avalanche control explosives.

  4. I like the MSDS idea, and will see what we have on that.

  5. I failed to put Dan Miller on the Explosives used in Avalanche Control team list. Please send explosives information that you as an explosives manager/avalanche forecaster would like to see presented at a fall avalanche control seminar for first and second year folks.
